Nearly six months into the war with Iran, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced a sweeping new sanctions campaign. This time the US is targeting Iran’s economic ties with the rest of the world. The Trump administration is threatening every country that continues to do business with Iran with secondary sanctions. Washington is seeking to increase the pressure on Tehran and is targeting five of Iran’s most vital lifelines: digital assents, technology, gold, aviation and shipping.
