How India Can Benefit From The U.S.-Canada Trade Flux
Canada’s trade negotiations with Washington have collapsed after the US imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Ottawa has vowed dollar-for-dollar retaliation from 8 September. The rupture may accelerate India-Canada talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Both sides aim to conclude the deal by the end of this year and raise bilateral trade from the current $8 billion to $50 billion by 2030 — a more than six-fold increase. As Canada seeks to diversify away from US dependence, India’s large market, growing manufacturing base and complementary trade basket (pharma, steel, seafood, electronics vs pulses, coal and fertiliser) make it an increasingly attractive partner.
