The United Nations votes to adopt a new map that shows Africa’s true scale | DW News
The UN has adopted a resolution to adopt a new version of the world map that better represents the scale of the globe’s continents. The old map was based on the so-called Mercator projection from 1569, which distorted the size of countries around the equator and in the polar regions. The ‘correct the map’ resolution was put forth by the African Union. 164 members of the UN voted in favor. Only the United States voted against.
