‘Tell the damn story’: Salman Rushdie on free speech & new doc on recovery from 2022 knife attack

A new documentary follows renowned author Salman Rushdie’s recovery from the 2022 attack that nearly took his life and left him without sight in one eye. Rushdie connects this attempted murder to the broader attacks on free expression, and the role of writers and journalists today. “I think one of the things that artists all understand and journalists understand is that if you have the story, tell the damn story,” Rushdie says. “Writers always speak the truth and face the consequences.”
