Remembering composer and singer Duncan Sheik
Singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik has died. He was 56.
As a reluctant pop music heartthrob, Sheik was behind one of the biggest hits of the 1990s. His song “Barely Breathing” spent more than a year on the Billboard Top 100.
But Sheik bristled at the pop label and found a new audience and massive success on Broadway, writing the music for the groundbreaking show “Spring Awakening.” The musical won eight Tony Awards and a Grammy.
A post on his Instagram page said Sheik died Thursday night, adding, “His musical legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
