ICE is deploying these electric shock gloves to agents. Here’s what to know
ICE agents may soon be outfitted with gloves that can deliver an electric shock.
The Department of Homeland Security awarded a contract worth nearly $17 million to purchase six thousand pairs of what’s described as a “conductive distraction and de-escalation device.”
DHS says the gloves are a “low-impact tool” that will help agents who encounter people resisting arrest or posing a threat to officers.
But government watchdogs and immigration advocates are raising concerns about how the gloves will be used by an agency already facing scrutiny over use-of-force incidents and how agents will be trained to use them.
