Hurricane Polo turns into monster Category 5 storm
Hurricane Polo off Mexico’s western coast has strengthened into one of the most powerful storms in decades.
Polo went from a 50-mph tropical storm on Monday to a monster Category 5 in just one day.
Polo is expected to head west, and then turn north, before threatening the Baja peninsula early next week.
Even as it remains offshore, ominous skies, and choppy seas have many in Mexico on edge, with high surf and rain creating the threat of flooding for some coastal communities.
Also in the Pacific, a tropical storm near Hawaii is gaining strength and could hit the island-chain as soon as Friday. Weather officials say the big island could see as much as 20 inches of rain.
