Finland’s president on the current road to peace in Ukraine
Finland’s president, Alexander Stubb, says he wishes Ukraine would join NATO.
“If we’re looking for a conventional deterrence for the alliance, the strongest one we would have right now, in terms of a capability to conduct modern warfare, would be Ukraine,” he told Compass Points host Nick Schifrin. “So we need to think about it in the long term.”
At the same time, Stubb said, “we have to be realistic” because, for Russia, an off-ramp from the war “will not be Finnish and Swedish NATO membership added by Ukrainian NATO membership.”
