Fighting in the Middle East spreads | DW News

Egypt has now confirmed that a fire at its Mediterranean port of Damietta was caused by a drone attack. Kuwait and Jordan are also reporting being targeted by Iranian strikes. The latest escalation has dimmed hopes of a return to normal shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has rejected a proposal from Oman to jointly manage traffic through the strategic waterway. Yemen’s Houthis are also threatening to choke off the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean – another crucial Middle East trade route.
