MS NOW Chief National Correspondent Chris Jansing has crossed the country talking to Democratic candidates and campaigns in battleground states about how they can beat the deluge of Republican money being spent against them. A key part of the answer is an expansive ground game: In state after state, Democratic enthusiasm has produced record numbers of volunteers. And in many cases, approaching grassroots organizing differently than they did in 2024 — more listening to more people (including independents and Republicans). Jansing spoke with Senate candidates and key organizers why listening is so important this cycle, how those conversations are used to build messaging and what it all means for 2028.
