Why the 9/11 attacks were a turning point in American history
While the United States has lived through traumatic events before, does anything compare to what happened on Sept. 11, 2001?
“We want some parallel to help us know where we’re standing. But nothing quite worked, to be honest,” historian David Blight told PBS News’ Judy Woodruff. “This was such an immediate, in one hour, mass murder that no one quite could process that. That takes historical time. Even then, I don’t think most Americans could process it, if they ever did, for a very long time.”
