Why Musk’s SpaceX Bought This AI Startup For $60 Billion | Cursor
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has finalised its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, the AI coding assistant that became one of the fastest-growing startups ever. The deal became effective on 14 August, two months after it was announced. Launched in 2023, Cursor helps developers write and debug code through natural language — powering the ‘vibe coding’ era. With the acquisition, Cursor gains access to SpaceX’s massive GPU fleet, giving it the compute needed to build stronger, more cost-efficient models. SpaceX and Cursor already launched Grok 4.5 for coding, finance and legal tasks, followed by Grok Bot and Grok 4.6. The move signals Musk’s direct challenge to OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI race.
