A call for wartime elections by a popular former Defense Minister is being seen as a direct challenge to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Mykhailo Fedorov was dismissed by Zelenskyy last month amidst a power struggle with the then Army chief. Fedorov’s call for elections during wartime complicates matters for Zelenskyy, whose tenure as President has been extended because Ukraine can’t legally hold elections when its under martial law.
