Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has described his country’s relationship with India as excellent and multidimensional, highlighting deep trade connectivity and strong social and cultural links. Speaking at an Asia Society event in New York, Khanal noted that two-thirds of Nepal’s trade takes place with India. India remains Nepal’s largest trading partner, receiving over 81% of its exports in the last financial year, while Nepali goods enjoy duty-free access to the Indian market. As a landlocked nation, Nepal also relies heavily on Indian transit routes such as Raxaul-Birgunj.
