Why doctors are campaigning to reduce gun violence
“Agree to Agree” is an educational campaign that brings together people with different views about guns to promote safer communities and find common ground.
In the latest episode of Horizons, host William Brangham talked with two doctors who are part of the campaign. Dr. Joseph Sakran, executive vice chair of surgery and director of clinical operations at Johns Hopkins Medicine, is a gun violence survivor. Dr. Sandy McKay, chief of the Division of General Academic Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, is a gun owner.
“When I think about why it’s important for myself, as both a trauma surgeon and a survivor, I think about this in terms of the fact that bullets aren’t political when they enter the human body,” Sakran said.
