Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has resigned seven months before his term was due to end but he isn’t leaving politics.
Vucic is now campaigning ahead of Serbia’s October 25 parliamentary election and seeking a return to the post of prime minister. The vote comes after nearly two years of student-led protests sparked by the deadly collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad in November 2024. The student movement has now entered electoral politics and is mounting a challenge to Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party.
