Scientists say sea levels along parts of California’s coast could rise by as much as 30 centimeters in the coming weeks. That may not sound dramatic, but it’s roughly the same amount of sea-level rise the state experienced over the entire last century. Driven by a powerful El Niño and an active Pacific storm season, the higher water is already damaging beaches and coastal infrastructure. So is this just a temporary spike, or a preview of what’s to come?
