Why artists like Billy Joel refuse to sell front-row tickets
Many artists are pushing back against high prices on the resale market, according to Brian Shearer, the director of competition and regulatory policy at the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator.
“Billy Joel doesn’t sell the front row tickets for his show because they’re always picked up by resellers and then sold to very wealthy people or just nobody,” Shearer told Horizons host William Brangham.
Shearer said that “resellers will purchase tickets for cheap and only sell them for extremely expensive prices,” leaving the seats empty if no one buys them.
