What’s leading parental ‘revolt’ over tech in schools
Parents across the U.S. are revolting against screen use and artificial intelligence in schools as part of a “global reckoning” against technology, The New York Times’ Natasha Singer says.
“The parent pushback against tech in schools is partly connected to concerns over data centers, rising concerns about Flock surveillance cameras on the streets, a pushback against Meta glasses,” she told Horizons host William Brangham. “The parent pushback against tech in schools is also partly about control, that there’s this feeling that Big Tech has had runaway influence on society globally.”
Singer, author of “Coding Kids: Big Tech’s Battle to Remake Public School,” added that parents are also questioning whether the technology is actually helping or harming their child.
