What Newsom thinks of Ossoff and his ‘Natalie’ taunt
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a potential 2028 election hopeful, isn’t concerned that his aggressive approach to trolling President Donald Trump could possibly turn away independents.
The governor said he hadn’t met anyone while touring South Carolina who has told him to stop his trolling of the president.
“I didn’t meet one, maybe a thousand folks I’ve spent time with [in] the last 40 hours,” he told PBS News co-anchor Amna Nawaz. “Literally, 80% of them say, ‘I love what you’re doing on that, keep up the fight. We need fighters in the Democratic Party.’”
When asked about Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., another potential 2028 hopeful, and his three-word taunt of Trump — “travel with Natalie,” an apparent dig at the president that implies an inappropriate relationship with executive assistant Natalie Harp — Newsom called Ossoff an “amazing fighter” and “generational talent.”
Despite drawing more attention lately, Ossoff, who is running for reelection to the Senate in November, has said he’s not running for president in 2028.
“I think everyone should run, if they have a big enough ‘why,’” Newsom said. “They can look you in the eye and make the case that they’re offering something unique and distinctive and they meet the moment, absolutely.”
