WATCH: Patel testifies FBI did not fire agents for working on investigations into Trump
Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., asked FBI Director Kash Patel whether he fired agents who worked on two investigations into President Donald Trump during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
Patel said he did not know how many FBI agents worked on either investigation, one into Trump’s handling of classified documents, and another into his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
“A lot of them retired, and some of the ones that weaponized law enforcement were terminated as they always will be,” Patel said.
At least three former FBI agents are suing the Trump administration after claiming they were fired for investigating Trump.
“Were any of those agents fired in whole or in part because they worked on those investigations,” Schiff asked.
“For the simple fact of working on those investigations? No,” Patel said. “If they weaponized law enforcement, yes.”
