Warren Buffett steps down as Berkshire Hathaway chairman
Billionaire investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett has stepped down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after leading the trillion-dollar conglomerate for more than 60 years.
In a letter to shareholders, the 96-year-old Buffett acknowledged that age was a factor in his decision, writing: “Father time always wins. He has, however, given me the opportunity to see Berkshire reach a point where I am more confident than ever about what lies ahead.”
Buffett became chairman emeritus effective immediately. His son Howard will now lead the company as part of a long-planned transition.
