Trump’s Taiwan stance unclear after Xi meeting
President Donald Trump’s view on Taiwan’s independence remains unclear after his summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, The Atlantic’s Vivian Salama says.
“President Trump has never really been explicit about his views on Taiwan, and he’s sort of taking a wait-and-see approach on what kind of positions him best with Xi,” she tells Washington Week moderator Jeffrey Goldberg.
She added that some lawmakers are concerned Trump will “throw in the kitchen sink or Taiwan” if he needs to get a deal with China.
