Trump’s redesign of historic D.C. public golf course unveiled
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has released a rendering of the new design for the East Potomac Golf Course in Washington, D.C. – the famous, public golf course that overlooks the monuments at the nation’s capital.
The course is also at the center of an ongoing battle with the Trump administration as the president seeks to upgrade the historic municipal course.
Burgum unveiled the plan by Fazio Design in a X post Thursday and said it would provide locals “championship-quality golf at affordable, highly discounted rates.”
No details were given on what those rates would be.
The design appears to change the existing 36 holes across three courses to an 18-hole course long enough to host professional tournaments along with a shorter nine-hole course and larger practice area.
The administration’s plan to overhaul East Potomac has raised concern from many locals who value the old course’s dirt-cheap greens fees and laid-back vibe.
Last Friday the Trump administration and the National Links Trust announced an agreement that would allow the nonprofit to continue managing the East Potomac Golf course and two others in the D.C area while renovations and redevelopment projects progress.
That move seems to have settled a lawsuit the NLT had filed after the Trump administration ended their 50-year contract to operate the course in December.
In a statement, NLT said, “We are pleased that Washington, DC’s municipal golf courses – East Potomac Golf Links, Langston Golf Course, and Rock Creek Park Golf – will now remain open, accessible, and affordable for the residents and communities that depend on them.”
East Potomac Golf course joins the White House Ballroom, the National Mall Reflecting Pool, the “Independence Arch” and a massive sculpture garden as Washington, D.C. development projects that President Trump has championed while in office.
