Trump says he wants to rename New Mexico

In his latest proposal to rename geographic locations, President Donald Trump posted multiple times online about changing New Mexico’s name to “New America.”

On social media Monday, the president published at least seven versions of maps with that name change. That followed several posts Sunday, including an AI video of him replacing the word “Mexico” with “America” on a road sign.

The president has no legal authority to rename any state, and in the case of New Mexico, it’s written into their Constitution. New Mexico’s Democratic governor responded by saying the name “isn’t up for debate.”
