With the midterms around the corner, the affordability crisis could have major consequences for Republicans at the ballot box. Gas prices are surging and inflation is rising, but Trump says the economy is “the greatest” America has ever seen. But just in case, he’s now promising to send every adult citizen in the country a check for $5,000 if Republicans hold the House and Senate. “It’s meant to be a distraction,” says Rep. Jim McGovern. “It’s going to cost like $1.3 trillion. I don’t know where they’re going to get the money from…they have screwed up this economy royally.”
