The ‘single biggest lesson’ from COVID for governments
The fractured trust in public health institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic has “set us up for a worst nightmare,” author Annie Jacobsen says.
“The biggest lesson is that the fracturing of trust among the people about what happened in COVID, why things happened the way they happened — I mean, it has set us up for a worst nightmare,” she told PBS News’ Geoff Bennett. “It could be something to really learn from.”
Jacobsen, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and New York Times bestselling author, looks at how weaponized pathogens could lead to a civilization-ending event in her new book, “Biological War: A Scenario.”
