Students begin school year in Gaza
Hundreds of thousands of children across Gaza return to in-person learning this week for the first time in three years.
The students are expected to attend in-person learning at makeshift private schools, temporary learning centers and educational points supported by the UN, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Nearly 98% of schools in Gaza are damaged, according to UNICEF. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) welcomed students in tents and damaged schools, despite a lack of basic education supplies.
“We want to achieve our dream,” one student said after returning to class.
