South Asia Geoeconomic Adda (SAGA) with Professor Sanjay Kathuria, Episode 6: South Asia in the Shock Zone: Energy, Exchange Rates and Debt. Guest: Dr. Krishna Srinivasan, IMF

South Asia is being hit harder than most regions by the ongoing energy shocks. In this episode of the South Asia Geoeconomic Adda, Professor Sanjay Kathuria is joined by Dr. Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the Asia-Pacific Department at the IMF, overseeing the institution’s work on 37 countries. They discuss how the Middle East conflict and the choking of critical energy supplies are testing South Asia’s already vulnerable economies. The conversation explores India’s rupee, Bangladesh’s banking crisis, Sri Lanka’s debt burden, Nepal’s currency peg, China’s role as a creditor, and the fiscal reforms South Asian economies need to withstand future shocks.
SAGA is hosted by Prof. Sanjay Kathuria, a pre-eminent thinker and commentator on South Asia, contemporary geoeconomic issues, economic development, and trade and globalization. He is co-founder of the Trade Sentinel, a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress in New Delhi, and a Visiting Professor at Ashoka University. https://www.tradesentinel.org/team
