Poilievre Says Midterm Results Give Canada Leverage, Demands Gas Tax Cut Ahead of Federal Budget

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke to reporters in Ottawa on November 4 ahead of his party’s weekly caucus meeting and the federal budget. He said the US midterm results, which saw Democrats take both the House and Senate, show Americans oppose tariffs, and urged Prime Minister Mark Carney to use that goodwill to secure tariff-free trade. Poilievre called for eliminating the gas and diesel tax, cutting government spending, and curbing immigration. He also criticized Carney’s record on grocery prices and housing, and took questions on the deficit and zoning.
