Patel refuses to say Trump didn’t win 2020 election

FBI Director Kash Patel said he would not comment when Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., asked whether he agreed with President Donald Trump’s false statement that he won the 2020 election.

“There are many ongoing investigations surrounding that matter, so I’m not going to comment on it and stylize the evidence,” Patel said.

Welch asked Patel whether reports that the FBI brought in 260 intelligence officials to investigate the 2020 election results in Georgia were accurate. He noted that two state recounts found Trump lost.

“As I’ve said, senator, repeatedly, public reporting is often wrong,” Patel said.

Welch also asked Patel whether there have been any indictments following a January FBI raid into election offices in Georgia.

“Once again, that matter is ongoing, so I’m not going to comment on it,” Patel said.

“Mr. Patel, there’s been no indictment,” Welch said.

Patel is testified in an oversight hearing on the nation’s lead law enforcement agency, which has recently touted a drop in crime nationwide.
