Osama bin Laden thought 9/11 would lead to the U.S. leaving the Middle East, says Graeme Wood of The Atlantic.
“It didn’t work out that way,” he says. “I believe over the last 25 years there’s been a pretty continuous American presence. It’s gotten larger, not smaller.”
