Official results: Far-right party wins Saxony-Anhalt state elections | DW News

The Alternative for Germany has clinched an historic victory in a state election. Preliminary results show the AfD won almost 44 percent of the Sunday vote in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, which puts a far-right party within reach of power at the state level for the first time since the Second World War. But the result is shy of an outright majority – and the AfD may have to find coalition forces. The party wants strict immigration curbs, warmer ties with Russia and less support for Ukraine. DW’s Ben Fajzullin speaks to DW political correspondent Giulia Saudelli in Magdeburg about what comes next.
