N.J. lieutenant governor resigns after ethics probe
New Jersey’s Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell stepped down Friday amid accusations of sexual harassment and ethics violations.
His boss, Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill, had given him until Friday to resign.
“In my administration, we are committed to doing what is right, not what is politically expedient,” Sherrill said at a news conference where she announced Caldwell’s resignation.
Sherrill was facing increasing political pressure after a law firm she had hired found Caldwell used sexually charged language and recommended someone he was dating for a promotion.
Caldwell has denied any wrongdoing.
