Maharashtra Bans Loose Edible Oil Sale, FDA Cracks Down On Supply Chain Violations
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has banned the sale of loose edible oil, mandating that all products be sold only in sealed, tamper-evident and fully labelled packages. The 14-point order targets the entire supply chain—from manufacturers to retailers—after inspections found adulteration, substandard quality, relabelling and unsafe practices. Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe warned that such violations pose serious health risks, especially for consumers buying oil in small quantities.
