LIVE: Minister Reveals Red Signal Failure Behind Deadly Collision

Spain is investigating a deadly high-speed train collision that killed at least 68 people and injured around 80 others. Transport Minister Oscar Puente has revealed that a Renfe train was authorized to resume its journey despite an active red signal, after a communications failure affected the railway signaling system.

According to Puente, the failure affected three computers and disrupted the safety network across a 63-kilometer stretch. The train reportedly traveled approximately 25 kilometers before colliding with a stationary Iryo train.

Authorities are investigating how the decision to resume railway traffic was made and whether safety protocols were followed. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has promised a full investigation into the tragedy.
