Marco Rubio India Visit Live Updates: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will leave Mumbai for Jamnagar at 10.30 am on Wednesday, the second day of his India visit, to tour Reliance Industries Ltd’s refinery amid discussions on expanding energy cooperation and bringing the India-US trade deal closer to conclusion. The top US official arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday, marking his second visit to India in five months. In the evening, he held wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, with both sides welcoming progress in negotiations on the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to working towards its early conclusion. Rubio said only “a small number of items” remained to be resolved, adding that the agreement could be wrapped up shortly. Shortly after his arrival, Rubio also visited the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel memorial in Mumbai and laid a wreath for the victims of the November 2008, terror attacks, including six American citizens. Rubio’s visit comes amid strained India-US ties over Washington’s trade policies, punitive tariffs imposed last year, immigration restrictions and higher H-1B visa fees. The two countries have also differed over India’s purchases of Russian oil.
