Krakow shooting: What do we know about the suspect and motive? | DW News
Poland is observing two days of national mourning after a mass shooting in Krakow killed six people and injured more than a dozen. Prosecutors are investigating the attack as a terrorist offense, and authorities say the suspected gunman held radical, far-right and ultranationalist views.
Police shot and wounded the suspect and took him into custody. Investigators later discovered the bodies of his parents and sister at the family home.
DW News correspondent Tessa Walter reports from Krakow on the victims, the mood in the city and the investigation.
Hans-Jakob Schindler, Senior Director of the Counter Extremism Project, joins DW News to examine what distinguishes a terrorist attack, the significance of the suspect’s reported far-right ideology and what his access to weapons could tell investigators. We also discuss the broader question of whether there was outside involvement in the attack in a bid to exploit extremist violence as part of hybrid warfare.
