Japan’s Central Bank Hikes Rates in Split Decision

The Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate in a split decision showing dissent within the board as it confronts mounting inflation risks and unusually explicit calls for further policy normalization from Washington.

US Treasuries rose as oil price declines and gains for UK government bonds reinforced improving sentiment after the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate hike and pledge to throttle inflation.

And speaking to Bloomberg, ECB Governing Council member Ante Zigman warned the central bank must get inflation under control as failing to do so would endanger economic expansion.
