Is AI Making Inflation Harder to Beat?
Former Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester says inflation remains a problem even after the latest CPI report came in cooler than expected, with price growth still above the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal and services inflation still elevated. She says the Fed should keep the option of higher rates on the table if policy proves too loose, while broader pressures from AI investment, geopolitical shocks and changes under Fed Chair Kevin Warsh could mean more volatility and higher nominal rates.
