Iran Chokes Hormuz Again? Tehran Plans New Restricted Zone In The Gulf, Impact On For Oil, Shipping
Iran has announced plans to declare a new restricted zone in the Gulf and is finalising maps for a shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz that it says it will manage directly. The move follows a weekend of tit-for-tat strikes on shipping that pushed oil prices higher. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the zone will begin where the US blockade starts and any vessel entering it will be placed on a sanctions list. Tehran says the Strait will only fully reopen once the US stops what it calls sabotage and attacks.
