India’s Consumer Watchdog Begins Probe Into ‘Manufacturing Defects’ In Chinese Phones
India’s consumer affairs department has begun examining complaints of manufacturing defects in Oppo Reno 5 series smartphones, according to government officials. Complaints registered through the National Consumer Helpline are under review. Oppo held a 13.6% share of India’s smartphone market in the April-June quarter, ranking third behind Vivo and Samsung. Senior executives of the Chinese brand will be asked to explain the issues and the remedial steps taken. Officials say some customers received replacement devices, and the inquiry aims to assess the scale of the problem and ensure proper compensation for affected buyers. The move comes amid broader regulatory scrutiny of Chinese smartphone makers in India.
