How the Houthi advance in Yemen could disrupt global trade | DW News


Yemen’s Houthi rebel forces have seized control of the strategic port city of Mocha, on Yemen’s Red Sea coast. The move puts the Iran-backed rebel group closer to controlling the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key chokepoint for global trade. Shipping routes have already come under pressure as a result of the ongoing war between the US and Iran and its effect on another vital bottleneck: the Strait of Hormuz. Now oil prices have jumped to over $100 a barrel again — the highest price in the last two months.
