How social media alienates us from our own lives
Social media is “alienating” us from our own lives, says author Kathryn Jezer-Morton.
Jezer-Morton told PBS News’ Geoff Bennett that social media platforms urge people to use certain “best practices” when creating content, or they “risk being invisible.”
“The platforms are encouraging this kind of conformity for sure,” she said.
She added that it’s “really alienating” when social media, society’s main communication medium right now, “only lets us say a very certain kind of thing.”
In her new book, “The Story of Your Life,” Jezer-Morton looks at how social media quietly shapes our narratives and how it can alienate us from our own lives.
Jezer-Morton spoke to Bennett for the PBS News podcast, Settle In. For the full episode, click the link in our bio.
