How midterms will shape how Canadians see U.S.
Chrystia Freeland, the former deputy prime minister of Canada, says the upcoming midterm elections “will have a big impact on how the world sees America.”
“It was one thing for Donald Trump to be elected once. For him to be elected the second time makes you start to think … it’s clearly not a fluke,” Freeland, author of the new book “Unreliable Boyfriend,” told Compass Points host Nick Schifrin.
She said that what really contributed to the distrust among U.S. allies, including from the Canadian perspective, “is so many people, so many institutions, so many Republican leaders capitulating to what the president is doing.”
Compass Points from PBS News analyzes prominent international affairs topics and America’s role in a shifting world, breaking down global conflicts, rising tensions, and their implications for U.S. interests. Visit the PBS News website to watch this week’s episode.
