Ex-Google Engineer Linwei Ding Jailed For Transferring 500 Secret Files To A Chinese Startup
A former Google software engineer, Linwei Ding, has been sentenced to just under a year in prison for stealing proprietary information tied to the company’s artificial intelligence operations. US District Judge Vince Chhabria called the theft a “systematic, brazen” effort that harmed people. Prosecutors said Ding transferred more than 500 confidential files over roughly a year to his personal cloud account. The files allegedly contained trade secrets about the hardware and software powering Google’s supercomputing data centres used to train large AI models.
