Drugs on the front line: Coping with war trauma in Ukraine | DW News


In the war in Ukraine there have been reports of soldiers on both sides using drugs to treat pain, stay awake, suppress fear, or simply keep functioning. Following combat substances can temporarily help to ease the feeling of stress and anxiety.

As the war drags on, addiction and self-medication are becoming a growing but largely unspoken problem. One that authorities are only starting to address, and one many fear will outlast the war itself.
