Drought is forcing Hungary to reshape the Danube to keep nuclear power running | DW News
Hungary is taking the unusual step of sinking barges into the Danube to help keep the Paks nuclear power plant operating as a historic drought drives water levels lower. The plant is currently running at about 25% of capacity, while neighboring Romania has shut down its last operating reactor because of the same conditions. Attila Aszódi, Professor of Nuclear Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, explains what the crisis reveals about the vulnerability of Europe’s energy infrastructure to a hotter, drier climate.
