Court rules Trump needs Congress to approve ballroom

A federal appeals court ruled Friday that President Donald Trump can’t continue building his $400 million White House ballroom without congressional approval.

In a 2-1 ruling, the judges sided with preservationists in finding that the president does not have the authority to build the 90,000-square-foot structure on the site where the East Wing once stood.

The judges gave the administration two weeks to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.

Trump called the decision unjust and said it should be overturned “in its entirety.”
