Could the US sell weapons to its biggest rival China?

The US ambassador to China says President Trump floated the idea of selling weapons to Beijing during talks with Xi Jinping. It would mark a major turnaround in US foreign policy and have potentially far-reaching consequences for Taiwan and other US allies in the Pacific region. We ask Ian Chong from the National University of Singapore if Washington could sell weapons to China without undermining its own commitment to Taiwan – and what would that mean for Taiwan’s future.
